The August, September, and October events were very fun with about 16 players so we’re doing it again monthly. This is an unrated tournament with three rounds in order to introduce tournament Chess to customers of Café do Paraíso and to offer SNVCC players some practice for rated tournaments. We will have players of all skill levels from none to expert-level. Owner Owen Carver markets his locally-roasted coffee at the Farmers Markets and places a Chess board at his booth. With this, the general public gets to taste coffee and chess. Samples of his very popular coffee will be available at the tournament and awarded as prizes to the winners. SNVCC will award free entries to future tournaments. Raffles too! All details can be found on the Registration Form by clicking the green button above.

There’s a need to teach kids how to play Chess tournaments. This unrated and unofficial educational practice tournament will teach kids the basic fundamentals so they can confidently and comfortably participate in official tournaments after they know how to move the pieces.
We will teach the kids how to use and set Chess clocks, how to take notation, and the mechanics of playing in tournaments according to official rules. To create a positive learning environment, we will have a separate game-within-game to reinforce proper procedures. Each player will start with 25 tokens/points. If they move too fast, forget to take notation or get lost in notation, use the wrong hand to press the clock, forget “touch-move”, etc., they will lose tokens. Positive actions will gain tokens. Prizes will be awarded to the player who retains the largest number of tokens at the end. All players will receive a $5 bill at the completion of the event. We will reinforce what local coaches are teaching them so they will develop the necessary skills to play in local Club, State, and even National tournaments. USCF Membership is not required for this tournament. This tournament will provide time for the kids to begin to understand the reasons behind the rules. Four rounds of G25d5. Intended for kids with no USCF rating or under 550. Minimum age: 7 years old.
Maximum age: 12 years old.

Registration link will be published after the November Coffee event on November 16.
